Wishing on a Star

It is all over the internet. An organization here in my town of Detroit, Full and Fabulous, is taking on a star. This organization is one that takes girls with low self esteem because of weight issues and turns them around. How do they do it? By helping them to believe in themselves as future stars.

So one day, the girls thought why not get a real star to come and talk with them about self images and how to turn theirs around successfully. They contacted the star’s company about what was needed for them to do to make this one dream come true. The cost turned out to be $30,000 and first class plane fare and accommodations while in Detroit. So the girls went to work.

Here is where I totally admire the young girls. With no thought of not being able to succeed in raising money to get a star to come, they did it all. They sold candy, had car washes, etc., you name it, they did it with one purpose in mind, get the star! Who was the individual they want so much? Star Jones. Isn’t it ironic her name is what the girls wished upon? Isn’t it also ironic that it was just that, a star that let them down?

Now I won’t go into all the details of the conflict but I will say this. No matter what the legal principals are involved in this fiasco, Star Jones should remember that she wasn’t always the “star” she is now. That she was once one who fought weight battles. That she too, had to build an image without the extra baggage. That she too was once one of the girls. This is why she should let go of the flax and come to Detroit, sit down with the Full and Fabulous girls and apologize.

Would that be so hard to do? Would it drain her pocket book? I say no. What it would do is restore the image the young girls had once because if not, it just might come back to bite her in the butt one day. You see, it’s a matter of ethics and not legalities. It’s a matter of having God consciousness not reaping benefits. I know she has worked hard and come a long way to get to where she is now but, she could still come down because there is still something called a “falling star.”

With all that is going on in this world, picking on some young girls building their self esteem up is not the answer to fame.
